MV Desafio

The MV Desafio is a classical schooner boat that offers guests old world charm and an intimate atmosphere. Measuring 33.22 m (109 ft), the boat is small enough to explore remote areas, but still spacious enough to provide comfort and casual elegance. Cruises begin in and end Manaus, exploring the Anavilhanas Islands, the majestic Rio Negro and the legendary Amazon River along the way. Tour packages range in length of stay, and are all-inclusive. Guests enjoy regional and international cuisine prepared on-deck, daily expeditions by motorized boats, and experienced bilingual guides. The cruise offers exciting activities such as boat trips to lagoons and flooded forests, and jungle treks. Guests can try piranha fishing and go alligator spotting as well. There are also organized visits to local river communities to learn about their unique culture and lifestyle.
The recently restored MV Desafio provides many of the amenities associated with larger ships. The restaurant and bar are fully air-conditioned, making them perfect places to unwind and retreat from the Amazon sun. In addition, the ship has a large sundeck and outdoor bar for observing the breathtaking surroundings.
The boat features 12 comfortable guest cabins, all carpeted and well-lit. Rooms include air conditioning, color TV, and a private bathroom.

Day 1 - Thursday – Trf in from hotel/airport to Tropical Manaus Pier. At 2:30 p.m., meeting aboard the M/V Desafio for the beginning of our Jungle Adventure. Following departure, our Amazon expert & guide will brief guests and provide all the details of the planned itinerary. The navigation of the Rio Negro leads us to the “Meeting of the Waters”, where the dark waters of the “Negro River” flow side by side with the muddy waters of the “Solimoes River”, without mixing for over 2 miles, forming the gigantic Amazon River. The boat will then head to the Janauary Ecological Reserve. Using motorized canoes, we will explore the “Igarapes” in search of the giant water lilies – Victoria Regia. Dinner will be served onboard and the M/V Desafio will dock overnight at the Praia do Tatu (“Armadillo Beach”).
Day 2 - Friday – After an early breakfast, a guided jungle through the rich Amazon Rainforest, for an opportunity to learn about the native medicinal and construction uses of various plants. Before returning to the M/V Desafio we will stop at a sandy river bank with free time for swimming. Lunch will be served onboard as we continue towards Samauma Island, located within the Anavilhanas the largest river archipelago in the world. In the afternoon, guests will explore the islands, lakes and Igarapés (flooded forest) by motorboat. Return to the boat for dinner followed by another trip by motorboat to experience the sounds of the forest at night and the sight of the star-covered sky. Return for overnight.
Day 3 - Saturday – The vessel starts navigation early in the morning, leaving the Anavilhanas and will cruise to the Santa Maria Village while breakfast is served. Upon arrival in Santa Maria, a visit is made to a typical jungle community, to learn about the way of life of the Caboclos (natives) and their unique relationship with the environment. We return to the boat and the cruise goes up to the “Furo do Meio” while lunch is served. In the afternoon, guests take the canoes for a very different fishing trip...catching piranhas... with the help of our experienced guide, who will release the smaller fish and keep the big ones for the famous aphrodisiac soup! After dinner onboard, the motorboats will do another outing in the surrounding area, to spot alligators with flashlights and even bringing the smaller ones onboard for photos. Return for overnight.
Day 4 - Sunday – Wake-up call at 5:30 a.m. for a morning tour to admire the wild calls of the birds emerging from their nests. Return to the boat for breakfast at 7:30 and begin our return to Manaus, arriving at approximately 11:00 a.m. at the Tropical Manaus Pier. End of our services.
