Ipanema is more than just a neighborhood: it’s a way of life. Walking along the beachfront, feeling the ocean breeze, and stopping at one of the kiosks in Ipanema are all part of the authentic Rio experience—for both visitors and locals. In this guide, you’ll discover the most famous kiosks, what to expect from each stretch of the beach, and how to make the most of this iconic Rio de Janeiro setting.

Bacio di Latte

Bacio di Latte, an Italian-style gelateria founded in São Paulo in 2011, has arrived on Rio’s iconic beachfront. On July 12, the brand opened its first beachside operation in Ipanema, exclusively dedicated to popsicles. Partnering with Orla Rio, Bacio di Latte debuted as a novelty on the Carioca shoreline, marking its presence at one of the city’s most famous landmarks and creating a unique consumer experience for those who frequent Rio’s waterfront.

The brand’s new and unprecedented popsicle kiosk allows customers to sample ten classic flavors—Bacio di Latte, Pistacchio, Belgian Chocolate, Coconut with Chocolate, Strawberry, Dulce de Leche, Lemon, Gianduia, Coconut, and Passion Fruit Cream—along with the exclusive Picolés Insanos line, which pays tribute to different locations across the Marvelous City.

Launched in late 2022, Bacio di Latte’s popsicles have quickly become a success within the brand’s portfolio. Just like the gelatos produced daily in its stores, the popsicles are made with fresh milk and cream, using top-quality ingredients such as pistachio kernels, whole hazelnuts, fresh strawberries, and other premium components.

The gelateria’s strategy is to get even closer to consumers by expanding its presence in small-scale retail—such as supermarkets, bakeries, bars, and restaurants—as well as in the place where people enjoy the product the most: the beach. For this reason, Rio’s shoreline could not be left out.

In December 2022, the Accor Group inaugurated its second beach kiosk operation in Rio de Janeiro: Sel d’Ipanema. Cariocas and tourists alike can enjoy a charming space located at Posto 9 on Ipanema Beach. Featuring light, contemporary décor, the Sel d’Ipanema Beach Club became yet another standout option for the summer of 2023. This new opening came just three weeks after Tropik—Fairmont’s trendy beach kiosk—won the Comer & Beber Veja Rio award in the kiosk category.

Netto Moreira, Directeur Général Délégué – Luxe Rio de Janeiro at AccorInvest, told Veja Rio that the space blends rustic elements with an organic and natural aesthetic. According to him, the youthful and trendy concept meets the relaxed Carioca lifestyle, transforming the venue into a complete experience. It is in this area that traditions were born, fashions were launched, and the sunset has long been—and continues to be—a celebrated ritual.

In the kitchen, dishes are inspired by the freshness and lightness of Modern Mexican cuisine, using simple, healthy ingredients. The lounge chairs available throughout the space make for a perfect option for those who want to relax while enjoying the stunning view of Ipanema Beach.

It is currently competing for the Future Architecture Award, a platform that highlights architectural works making a meaningful impact on everyday life in major cities around the world. In addition, the kiosk brings contemporary art and socio-environmental projects into the daily beach experience, hosting exhibitions, performances, talks, and a variety of open-air activities focused on sustainability and innovation.

If you’re looking for a culturally rich spot with great drinks and diverse entertainment options, Alalaô is undoubtedly the right choice.

This recommendation is for those who love fine dining, healthy and flavorful options, and breathtaking views. Located at Posto 10 in Ipanema, Clássico Beach Club is inspired by Europe’s most fashionable beach clubs, featuring a spacious structure that combines kiosk and lounge areas to elevate the overall experience.

The venue also offers a wide range of gastronomic and entertainment options worthy of its name. The atmosphere is inviting, with a stunning view of the Dois Irmãos hills and several picture-perfect spots for photos and videos on social media.

Gastronomy is one of its highlights. As a starter, we recommend trying the shrimp croquette and the house’s Truffled Salmon Tartare, made with salmon seasoned with truffle oil and roasted almonds, served with slices of naturally fermented bread. Both pair beautifully with one of the venue’s signature cocktails. To complete the experience, the standout choice is the Filet Mignon with Truffled Baroa Potato Purée, featuring filet mignon, baroa potato purée, organic baby vegetables, tomato vierge salsa, and truffle oil. It’s perfect for sharing and pairs exceptionally well with one of the kiosk’s wines.

Following its success in Copacabana and Botafogo, the brand expands its presence in Rio de Janeiro with a modern, welcoming space curated by Orla Rio. In addition to the classic empanadas, the menu also features salads, desserts, and beverages, rounding out the experience.

Founded in 2014, La Guapa now has more than 35 locations across Brazil and continues to grow—without losing the artisanal soul that won over the country. Now all that’s left to do is stop by the kiosk, choose your favorite flavor, and enjoy the very best of Rio’s beachfront with plenty of taste and tradition.

On the beach for over thirty years, Quase Nove is one of the oldest and most traditional kiosks along the waterfront. The kiosk features a well-equipped structure with wooden tables and chairs, umbrellas, restrooms, portable sinks for hand hygiene, and queue separators. On weekends, Quase Nove also sets up a volleyball net on the stretch of sand in front of the kiosk.

The kiosk offers more elaborate dishes such as beef roll (bife à rolê), filet mignon with Madeira sauce, stroganoff, and baked casseroles (escondidinhos). Quase Nove even earned third place at the Sabores da Orla Award with its Bacalhau à Zé do Pippo. Prepared fresh to order, it also features a wide variety of toppings—from chocolate to nutritional supplements—allowing customers to customize their bowl to their taste and lifestyle.
